College Union & Activities

The College Union is an elected body of the students of the College for the promotion of the practice of democracy and leadership qualities among the students of the College. College has been following the Parliamentary mode of election. The union functions under the guidance of Student Advisers appointed by the Principal.

The principal objectives of the Union are:

  • To train the students of the college in the duties, responsibilities and rights of citizenship
  • To organize various extracurricular activities.
  • To promote opportunities for the development of character, leadership, efficiency, knowledge and spirit of service among students.
  • To encourage sports, arts and other cultural, educational social or recreational activities that are conducive of the above activities.

Activities

Oath and Union inauguration
On 8th October, 2018, College Union 2018-2019 was inaugurated by the cheif guest Mr. P A Kuriakose (senior chief editor Malayala Manorama). Principal Dr. Sr. Magie Jose, Vice Principal Dr. Sr. Meena K Cheruvathur, Dr. Josephine Joseph, (HOD Dept. of English) and the newly elected union members chaired the dias. The formal inaugural ceremony was followed by oath taking, distribution of certificates to the ex-union members and memento distribution to the NCC and Sports champions.

Feast day celebration
On 16th October Tuesday 2018, held Principal Sister’s Feast Day celebration at Marian Hall, St. Mary’s College, Thrissur. Principal Dr. Sr. Magie Jose was warmly welcomed. The celebration was opened up by a prayer dance performed by the students of St. Mary’s College, Thrissur. Followed by wishing and cake cutting ceremony. All the 14 departments of the college and the present union members merrily handovered the handmade cards to the principal sister. Persuded by a felicitation by Rose Mariya Joshy (II DC English, Joint Secretary ) and proceeded by Miss. Jisha Elizabeth (HOD of Malyalam dept) for the same. Finally, the ceremony ended up by Principal sister’s message.

Kerala Piravi Celebrations
On 1st November , Thursday 2018; Kerala Piravi was celebrated in St Mary’s College , Thrissur. The day began formally with a melodious prayer by Mathushree Menon (II DC English Dept.) , it was followed by a welcome speech by Rose Mariya Joshy (Joint Secertary) .Our beloved principal Dr.Sr. Magie Jose read out the Pledge for the students , followed by lighting of the lamp assisted by Jisha Elizabeth (HOD of Malayalam Dept.) and Student advisors. There was Presidential Address by Dr. Josphine Joseph (HOD of English Dept.). Union members with the help of other students have drawn kerala with Rangoli in Open Stage. An Exhibition was conducted based on the theme “BUILD KERALA” and it was exhibited. All departments were actively participated.

Fine Arts inauguration
On 19th November, St. Mary’s College ,Thrissur witnessed Fine Arts Inauguration ‘DEXTRA 2K18’. The inaugural function had its Chief Guests who were the first runners up, Addis Antony Akkara and Vincy Aloysious from the top rated television show ‘Nayikanayakan’. The function solemnly began with the Prayer. It was followed by, a Welcome Speech by Fine Arts Secretary, Anugraha Deepak. It was then proceeded by Principal’s Talk and then it was descended by the guests of the day Addis and Vincy. Vismaya of II DC Botany was honoured for her Adoor Bhasi Award achievement. Then the much awaited College Magazine ‘MERAKI’ (2017-2018) was released by Principal, Magazine Cordinator, Dr. Bindu Ann Philip and ex- Magazine Editor, Renu Pavoo. It was continued by an inspirational segment ie; , a Recitation by Vinny of II DC of History, from her book ‘Minnaminung’. Then students were allowed to interact with the guests who splashed colours and live to the St. Marians, campus and staffs. It was winded up by Vote Of Thanks by the Joint Secretary, Rose Mariya Joshy.
