Department celebrated the world Heart day by conducting a poster competition and invited talk by an external expert.
Hypercholesterimea and its Mnagement in Ayurvedic Perspective by Dr. Sr.Austine, Cosultant Physician Amala Ayurvedic Hospital and Research Centre, Thrissur.
We conducted a poster competition on Healthy Heart on 6th October 2015. The winners of competition were from Department of Biotechnology and Department of English.

Department organised the MSc project presentation for MSc students who completed their MSc projects in the department. A powerpoint presentation followed by interactive session with students was performed.
1st and 2nd August 2014
Department in collaboration with Microbiology department actively participated in the Marian Monsoon Fest. Department organised a doctor on call session for all the staff and students. Free doctor consultation was provided to all the staffs and students during the fest.
8th August 2014
Department in collaboration with Roche diagonostics organised a free kidney disease detection camp and awareness class conducted by Dr. Jayanth T Mathew, Sr. Consultant Nephrologist Amala Hospital. The programme was inagurated by principal Sr. Dr. Chrislin. The blood test was conducted for teaching, ministerial staff and also for students. The results of the test was provided to individuals concerned and the necessary measures has taken.

Department in collaboration with Microbiology department conducted 2 days National seminar on Microbes for Green Environment Sponsored by University Grants Commission.The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. D J Bagyaraj. Eminent personalities from different institutes led the scientific sessions
Roof Top Vegetable garden
Our department set up a roof top vegetable garden to make our college green and keeping ourseves healthy by providing pesticide free vegetables.
Towards the social responsibility of keeping the nation clean ‘SWACHH BHARATH’ mission, we, the Department of Biochemistry organized a social venture to collect plastic wastes from College campus and surroundings .Besides plastic collection, we cleanedopen sewage area by treating it with bleaching powder so that our premises will be free of mosquito larvae.
Awaeness campaign to the public
Awareness classes were given by the students so that they themselves can aware about the things that they can do in their homes to keep the surroundings green and clean.
Competition on innovative ideas on waste management
At the same day department conducted a competition regarding innovative ideas to manage the solid waste with the participation of various departments in our college.Department of Biotechnology was awarded as first prize in this competition for their process of creating Bioplastic from banana waste.

Department with its interest to enhance the scientific aptitude among students, had taken students to Southern India Science Exhibition organized by the Viswesaraya Institute , Bangalore to the ThekkinkaduMaidanam .

In collaboration with Vasan Dental Care we organized a dental camp on 19th January 2015. The service of the camp was made available to staff and students. Nearly to 200 participants availed the facility and a thorough dental checkup was conducted. The camp was successful in clearing the queries made by the participants.

- Waste Disposal awareness program (6/June 2013)
Owing to the increased problem faced by the public due to waste deposition, Department of Biochemistry organized an awareness program for the students of our college. Here we emphasized the need for separating waste based on the property of the waste like biodegradable, paper and plastic. We introduced a system for separating these wastes. This was done in accordance with world environment day celebrations.
With an endeavor to promote the social commitment of students, the department along with department of microbiology conducted awareness programs on Monsoon Diseases. The programs included exhibition, awareness classes for school students and inter-departmental power point presentation competition about the same.
- Exhibition on “Monsoon Diseases-Its prevention and Treatment” (2/July/2013)
A one day exhibition with the theme “Monsoon Diseases-Its prevention and Treatment” was held on 2/July/2013.
The programme was inaugurated by SrDrJacintha C C, Principal of St Mary’s Coliege at 9.30 am in the Kalajyothi Seminar Hall. The exhibits were indeed eye opener on various water borne, air-borne and vector-borne diseases related to monsoon. The exhibition also showed the safeguards that one must follow in order to keep all diseases and infections at bay.
- Awareness programme on Monsoon Diseases (2/July/2013)
The U G and P G students of our department conducted an Awareness programme on “Monsoon Diseases-Its prevention and Treatment” at Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Thrissur, on the same day (2/July/2013), from 1.30 to 2.30. More than 200 students attended the programme. The classes were taken by Vinny Vincent (II Sem M Sc), NekithaSebastain, HimaHaridas, Sneha K R and StegyRaphael(V Sem B Sc Microbiology students). They elaborated the symptoms as well as the preventive measures of Monsoon diseases to the students.
- Inter-departmental Power Point Presentation Competition (4/July/2013)
An inter-departmental Power Point Presentation Competition for students on the topic “Monsoon diseases - Prevention and treatment” was conducted on 4/July/2013. The competition was held in the Kalajyothi seminar Hall at 9.30am. Seven groups from different departments participated in the competition. SreelakshmiMenon and team of Department of Biotechnology won the first prize. Second prize was shared between Nekitta Sebastian and team &HimaHaridasan and team of Microbiology Department.

- M Sc Project Presentation (29/August/2013)
As a part of department activity, the II M Sc students presented their project work in front of the PG and UG students. LCD presentations were followed by an interactive session.
- Food fest as part of CSS (28/ November/ 2013)
As a part of CSS, a food fest “The Fest of Tastes” was conducted on 28/11/2013. The fest was inaugurated by Sr Mary K P, Vice Principal of St Mary’s College at 11.40 am in the Kalajyothi. The food items in the fest included varieties of Dosa, Chappathi and Kuruma, Shakes, Fruit salad, Lemon juice, Bread pudding etc. The whole hearted co-operation of the students and teachers made it a grand success.
Adolescence age being an age to be taken care off, our department indented to organize an awareness and interactive session with various medical experts in the field of gynecology for our students.
A team of B Sc nursing Final year students from Amala Cancer Centre was interacting with our students regarding gynecology related problems and the importance of folic acid in our daily life. This shed a light for our students in having a proper diet.

Dr. R Balakrishnan Consultant infertility specialist West fort Hospital Thirssur led an interesting talk on irregularities in menstrual cycle and the importance of Vitamin D in our day to day life. Students showed their keen interest in the talk and had a very good interaction with relevant doubts with the doctor.Thisprogramme was hosted in collaboration with KERALAWomen's Care Division,Mylan Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd.
- World cancer day celebration February 4
In accordance with the world cancer day (FEB 4) Departments of Biochemistry and Microbiology celebrated cancer week including an Exhibition, Poster competition, Paper presentation, Awareness talk by the famous oncologist Dr. Gangadharan.
